Disk Archive solves the complex challenge of long-term digital preservation. The ALTO solution provides specialized cold storage solutions specifically designed for the demanding archival needs of the media, legal, medical, and surveillance sectors.
Utilizing third-generation “Massive Array of Independent Disks” (MAID-III) technology, the ALTO systems spin down disks completely when inactive. This “cold disk” approach results in ultra-low power consumption and a significantly reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to traditional RAID and allows random access to data removing the physical bottleneck of tape drives when compared to LTO.
ALTO serves as a secure on-premise alternative to public cloud archiving. It also supports robust hybrid strategies, acting as the primary local archive while easily replicating data to secondary LTO libraries or cloud tiers as a place of last resort. The compact system eliminates hardware vendor lock-in, allowing seamless scaling with standard, off-the-shelf disks.
